Brady Corbet

  • Brady Corbet

  • Brady Corbet is a dark dark man! Well actually no HE isn’t, he is rather lovely in real life, but the characters he plays in his movies definitely inhabit the darker realms of the mind….One such movie, which is coming out April 5th in cinemas, is “Simon Killer” where he does a brilliant job of playing an absolute shit head !!  Again let me stipulate this is no reflection on the man himself who last summer helped a young farm girl who had just moved here to pursue acting navigate the piranha filled world of entertainment with out so much as touching one hair on her head !  As well as acting, Brady also directs music videos most recently “EdwardSharps and the Magnetic zeros ” Man on fire” which is awesome and rather odd!

One sunny afternoon Brady and I walked around NYC chatting and playing with leaves.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Had always wanted to make films! I suppose in this way I have been very fortunate.

How did you get to be where you are?
Malcolm Gladwell with his book Outliers, presented a now already popular theory that 10,000 hours of practice is what separates good musicians from great ones… Every day of my life I’ve tried to put in the time to watch, learn, and think about cinema and it’s potential. That being said, I don’t think I’ve fully realized my own potential just yet but that is how I’ve gotten to where I’m at so far.

If you could go back in time and give your 16 year old self some advice what would it be?
Life won’t always be this painful, brother.

  • If the cupboard in your bedroom would lead you to another world what would your Narnia look like?
A lovely town square occupied by some surprisingly affordable 3 star Michelin restaurants! Maybe throw in a quaint old bookstore and a movie theatre? A strip club?

What was one of your favorite past projects?
I’ve loved making most of the things I’ve made. Working with Michael Haneke was a defining moment of my life and career though and it’s the moment I treasure most.

What are you working on now?
I co-wrote a film with my partner Mona Fastvold that she directed which is entitled The Sleepwalker. I think it’s an incredibly haunting and precise character study. We are in the last stages of post-production currently.

And what do you dream of happening in the future?
I intend to direct a certain film soon. I dream of the financing coming together with some ease!

  • Which version do you prefer Tupac’s “Changes” or “Bruce Hornsby” That’s just the way it is?
Tupac but that’s just because if it’s Tupac vs. anything else, Tupac is bound to win out.

Are you a morning person or night person?
    Night person.

Any advice for peeps just starting out?
Hard for me to think of anything that wouldn’t sound patronizing to my younger self! Erm…. Hang in there!

Is there a quote or mantra you live by?
I’ve always liked the nitzche quote, “One virtue is more than two as it’s more of a knot for fate to cling to”
