  • Christina Kruse

  • Christina Kruse is not only a mega model that has graced the pages of hundreds of magazines world wide she is also a successful working artist. Kruse uses a mixture of formats to work with including photography, collaging, illustrating, hand stamping, my most fave pieces of art being a series of books entitled Reisebuch 1-5, Special Edition, signed and numbered by Kruse. Each is unique and hand stamped by her.

I strolled on over to her apt, in NY, one spring day for a cuppa and a look at some of her work….

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A geologist when 16, a physical therapist when 15 and a theater make up artist actually at the age of 14. I applied at every hamburg theater for an internship – not much success though, I did not get in anywhere.instead I was interning as a news journalist, spending a hell of a lot of time in hamburgs courthouses, in vans going to news worthy people’s houses with the film crew – have to say much enjoyed the cutting room back then – all hand cut, spent a good amount of hours in there.

How did you get to be where you are?
I don’t want to say coincidence but maybe more luck, a good portion of total naivety and complete faith that i am doing exactly what i should be doing as otherwise I would not be doing it  – for now… who knows things seem to change all the time anyways but i guess that is already taken into consideration… thinking out loud.

  • If you could go back in time and give your 16 year old self some advice what would it be?
    Live and learn.

If the cuboard in your bedroom would lead you to another world what would your Narnia look like?
    Lothlorien – no doubt.

    By day you are a…?
    Awake person.

    By night I am…?
    A sleeping person.

What was one of your favorite past projects?
Wasn’t my project but a shoot for itl vogue last month in which i got to wear masks that were made from my face and then altered into all sorts of odd looking ladies- it was great for me as this comes as close as ever being part of the theater mask making process i have always been fascinated by.

  • What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
Working with wood, varnishes ,saws and if all goes well a variety of forms will be the result of that. I wish very much that these forms actually do come out of these wooden cubes-in the near future ideally-that is as far i think ahead and that is all I am thinking.

What song do you love that you keep secret cause its totes embarrassing to say publicly you like it?
Fred Vom Jupiter – used to listen to it on my walkman while riding my horse – odd, but I could not stop listening to it – over and over and over again – and clearly not that embarrassing to me.

Which version do prefer….Stings “every breathe you take” or P.diddys “I’ll be missing you”?
    P.diddy’s actually – brilliant song.

  • Are you a morning person or night person?
    Both

Any advice for peeps just starting out?
If it feels right keep going ,may take a while but you’ll get there.

Is there a quote or mantra you live by?
    Day by day.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
    A non smoker.
