Daphne Javitch is the designer and founder of the very, very cute under wear line TEN. She is also one of the most effortlessly chic and beautiful ladies I know so it is hardly surprising that people are clamoring to collab with her. I went over to her equally chic apt, one spring afternoon, to catch up and see her new colorful Ten collection…
Who is Daphne Javitch?!
I’m the creative director of TEN and a design consultant at Theory. What did you want to be when you grew up?

How did you get to be where you are?
I was a costume designer for 10 years before I created TEN. I loved it and was lucky to work on great projects with unique, talented and generous people. Eventually, I wanted to make something that was my own. TEN is very connected to my point of view though I still benefit from the collaborative experience with people on my team as well as at my consulting job. I really like building relationships with people- I think it makes stronger work.If you could go back in time and give your 16 year old self some advice what would it be?
Don’t get that tattoo! -
By day you are a designer, by night you are……?
Still a designer! My hours are long! Marissa, from the TEN studio, says I’m a popcorn eater by night. So I guess I’m a closet binger by night. What was one of your favorite past projects?
I’m very proud of the TEN & A Detacher collaboration in stores now. I’ve been a customer at A Detacher and a fan of Mona Kowalska for years. It was a very natural and inspiring project. -
What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?
I just launched my first capsule collection of clothing in collaboration with Ron Herman Japan. It’s 10 items for the TEN girl. Now we’re working on the follow up collection for Fall which I’m also very excited about- I want to wear it right away! As for the future we’re working on developing prints and new styles. The new TEN collection comes out in June. What song do you love that you keep secret ’cause it’s too embarrassing to say publicly you like it?!
