Pamela Love

  • Jewelry designer Pamela Love approached me and artist Martynka Wawrzyniak about photographing each other for her “Love Stories’. Martynka and I have been friends for years and I love photographing her, so one sunny weekend with camera in hand we took it in turns both in front and behind the camera, show casing some of Pamela Loves beautiful jewelry.

    Occupations:

MW: Artist and editor at Rizzoli Publications. martynka.com

FT: Photographer and painter.  Creator of the website www.5minuteswithfranny.com

    Hail from?

MW: Born in Poland and spent 10 years in New Zealand before moving to NYC.

    FT: London, UK.

    How did you meet? When?

MW: We met what seems like another lifetime ago when I hired Frances as a stylist for some fashion shoots. Including a super fun trip to Jamaica where we bonded for life while sharing a bungalow.

FT: We met briefly at a couple of meetings in NYC but didn’t get to properly start getting to know each other until we were roommates on a shoot in Jamaica. That was a lot of fun!! Gosh that was about 12 years ago now.

  • What do you like best about Martynka?

She is quite an odd cookie is Martynka !! I haven’t met any one like her before and she doesn’t try to fit into the normal mold. She doesn’t have a bad bone in her body, alway has a nice thing to say about every one. She is a very loyal and supportive friend and a killer cook!

What do you like best about Frances?

Frances is my feminist super hero role model and inspiration!  She is a multi- talented creative force and the sexiest mama in NYC! She has a heart of gold been and has been an incredibly supportive and loyal friend, helping me through some of the hardest times of my life. I feel truly blessed to have her as a close friend.

  • Favorite piece of jewelry?

MW: An antique baltic amber necklace from my mother.

FT: Diamond 5 spike earrings in gold.

    Gold or silver?

    MW: GOLD!!!

FT: Gold … rose gold is my fave followed by yellow gold.

    Diamonds or rubies?

MW: Hmm, I have always loved diamonds, but recently pulled a crystal card that indicated that I should wear more garnet and ruby to connect to my root chakra/ mother earth.

FT: Diamonds, but I feel so guilty for even saying that, let alone wearing them with the terrible conditions the diamond miners live and work in so we can wear pretty jewelry.

  • Favorite memory of each other?

MW: Oh so many…and so many of them from upstate in Kripplebush, at our friends magical paradise oasis. I think I must second Frances on her memory of Kripplebush on the 4th of July. It was the most magical 4th of July ever. We had nature providing a fireworks show in between the fireflies and lightning.

FT: Floating like butterflies around our friends magical house upstate, watching fireflies and sunsets and storms (all going on at once).

    Favorite film ?

    MW: Walkabout by Nicolas Roeg

FT: “About Time”, me and my husband watch that over and over again. It makes me nostalgic for my childhood…. also “Just friends”. Makes me laugh so much.

If you could spend an hour with one person dead or alive who would it be and why?

MW: Marcel Duchamp! I am in love with his brain.

FT: JK Rowling.. Can you even imagine a world with out Harry Potter any more? Thats quite a talent, what  an incredible imagination to be able to create that.

  • Favorite quote ?

MW: I also love quotes! One of the ones I have tagged in the book that sits by my bedside table  “Buddhism Day by Day – Wisdom for Modern Life”: “Each of us move forward secure on our own earth, not the earth of others. Happiness is something we must create for ourselves. No one else can give it to us”.

FT: I love quotes so much. I buy tea just for the quotes! So my fave quote changes all the time… One that stuck with me quite recently and made a pretty decent impression was this one by Lao Tzu:

“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.”
